LEAD BASED PAINT TESTING

According to estimates from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, approximately 38 million homes in the United States still contain lead-based paint. This statistic underscores the ongoing challenge of addressing lead hazards in residential properties and highlights the importance of continued vigilance in lead abatement efforts.

Since the prohibition of lead-based paint in 1977 by the United States, its use in residential settings, schools, hospitals, public buildings, and on consumer products like furniture and toys, has been strictly banned (16 Code of Federal Regulations 1303). Despite these regulations, homes constructed before 1978 are likely to contain lead-based paint, posing significant health risks through the inhalation or ingestion of lead-contaminated dust. This exposure is particularly dangerous for children and can lead to severe cases of lead poisoning, a heavy metal toxicity that can cause a range of health complications.

Our team of Cal/DPH certified consultants specializes in overseeing and documenting the abatement process, ensuring all activities comply with federal, state, and local regulations. Our comprehensive services during the abatement phase include personnel monitoring and project specification compliance. Upon project completion, our consultants deliver detailed reports that include regulatory notifications, air and wipe sample records, and strategic recommendations to mitigate future lead exposure.

Horizon Environmental Engineering's full suite of services extends beyond inspections to include XRF assessments, paint chip and lead wipe sampling, risk assessments, in-place management, remediation design and monitoring, clearance sampling, as well as waste disposal consulting and analysis. These services underscore our commitment to safeguarding public health by effectively managing lead-related hazards in environments where people live and work.
